Welcome to the official web site of the men of virtue. We are a clan that plays the online game Raid Shadow Legends together. I am Hobo Jak's your humble clan leader. I am a F2P (free to play) type player. And yes, since you ask, back in my younger days, I used to ride freight trains around the country. I have a degree in mechanical engineering and another one in railroad operations.
Happy Thanksgiving day. Nothing new for today.
Siege video 1 An official video about siege put out by Raid
Siege video 2 The second half of the official video.
Adding your teams to the clan fortress
Suggested siege strategy Some of my thinking about defensive stradategy to use in the prep phase of siege battles.
My discord link is "jaks1753".
Hit me up on discord!
I am not special. I have a few special jobs in the clan. Oher than that I am no different from other clan members. There are other players in the clan who know more about the game. There are players in the clan more powerful than I am.
It is not really my place to order other clan members around or tell them how to play. Clan members are not slaves. I don't own our clan members.
The clan isn't my clan, it's our clan. It belongs to all of us.
I would like it better if we all talked together on clan chat and discord then we made consensus decisions that we all agree on when we work together.
Along with the deputies it is my duty is to remove dead weight from the clan. Dead weight means people who have quit playing. These people need to be removed from the clan. We still love them it is just that their life is going in a different direction.
One of my jobs is to set membership requirements to join the clan. Currently there are no requirements. When a member leaves the clan or is removed for lack of participation it creates an opening. I have set it up that when this happens anybody can join. You don't to fill out an application or have a certain player power to join.
I also have the option to "promote the clan." This is a button that I can push that puts a message into global chat. I don't use this button. With the help of deputies and lieutenants I like reading player profiles and sending them individual invitations to join the clan.
When our clan has an opening, lieutenants deputies and I can invite new members to the clan. Most of our members came here because we sent them an invite. Some members find us all on their own despite the fact we don't advertise. We have a special love for them.
As your clan leader, one of my main responsibility is to appoint deputies. There is a whole section on this page about deputies that you can get to by clicking the button below.
I get to type out a clan message and description.
I am currently using the clan message as a motivational tool to incourage our clan members.
From the bastion if you click on "clan" and click the top section labeled "info", you will see our current clan message and description.
It would be a good idea to have a look at the message every day when you first log in because I change it very frequently. This is a mandatory requirement for new members.
Along with the deputies I have the authority to spend siege mana orbs from our mana orb cash.
Every member of the clan can use mana orbs from their own personal stash to set conditions on posts.
When I started the game I joined a clan. It was not very good. More and more people in the clan became less active. Even the clan leader went inactive.
Eventually I was made the clan leader. This was automatically done by raid because it cuts you as clan leader if you don't log in for two weeks.
I changed the name of our clan. I made us a banner. I kicked all the inactive members from the clan and started recruiting new ones.
Together we worked hard to build the clan we have today. We keep improving.
Deputies get special privileges in the clan. Most importantly they can remove other members from the clan. They also get to spend mana in siege.
People have a basic human need to feel to loved and accepted. In our clan this is a special responsibility of our deputies. Please show up in the clan chat often and give our members incouragement.
Since one of your main duties as clan deputies is to remove inactive clan members, I suggest that you carefully read the section on members. The rules for new members have changed but the rules for veteran members are still the same.
Here is how it works. From the bastion you can click on clan. From there you can click on members. There you can see how long it has been since a member has played. From there you can click the action button and select remove from clan.
We love our veteran members. Many of you have been here for a long time. We have fought many battles together. We are like a family.
Our clan has grown stronger. It is time to make some new requirements for new members. These are not ex post facto. These new requirements only apply to new members.
We have had to work long and hard to build this clan. Now new clan members have to go through a probationary period where they have to meet special new requirements. These rules were not in place when our clan veterans joined the clan, and they don't apply to them. These new requirement only apply to new members on their probationary period.
There are 3 steps, labeled (1) - (3), explained in the next subsection, that new clan members should take every day.
There are now requirements that new clan members participate in important clan activities. These include clan vs. clan, hydra, demon, siege, and clan quests. These are list as tasks labeled (A) through (E) that you are expected to work on in a timely manner.
Read the website completely when you first join our clan. Then check it every day from then on. You should bookmark our website on your device.
There is a button in the first section called "what's new." When new information comes out you are expected to read it. Also comment on the new stuff on the website in clan chat. This will help you to feel like you are part of the group and get to know the older members.
Think of the website as an advanced form of the primitive message system built into raid.
The next thing you need to do when you log in is to check in. Start at the bastion. From there click on clan. From there click on members. From there click the button alongside your handle that says "check in" and get your first star.
This really helps the clan because this scores activity points for us.
We really like to see new members get three activity stars every day. While you are there click on "info" and read the message typed by the clan leader.
New members are required to participate in clan chat often. Failure to do so can result in removal from the clan.
Don't worry if you are a veteran. We will not kick you out for not chatting enough.
When you make a comment in clan chat, it is a good idea to mention what you read on the website paying special attention to newly published material.
Also please comment on the official clan leader message. It will show us that you are paying attention to what is going on with the clan and that you are following the web site.
That is it for daily chores. In the next sections I will go over activities that new members on probation are required to participate in.
You will need to score a minimum of 1,000 points in Clan vs. Clan battles. This will really help you because you get tremendous milestone rewards if you score a minimum of 1,000. Our Clan almost always gets all our milestone rewards by the end of the contest.
New members are expected to place teams in the clan fortress early in the preparation phase of the battle. This might be difficult for players at levels under 45 because they can't play siege. In this case you can ask for an exemption in chat.
New members are expected to play hydra every week. As most of you already know, each player gets three hydra keys every week. Please be sure to use these every week. Defeating the hydra is a team effort, and our team needs your help! Failure to do this repeatedly may result in removal from the clan, for new members during their probationary period. This new rule does not apply to our veteran members.
Some ruthless clan leaders are kicking people out of their clans for not being on discord. That sounds really rough to me but new members are encouraged to participate in discord discussions.
Right now there is very little discussion on discord.
New members are expected to participate in clan quests. These really help the clan because they give us clan experience points. A new set of quests come out every weak. You are eligible to take three quests. If there are not any quests available that you are able to do you may get an exception to this rule by asking for an exemption in clan chat.
If you are a deputy you have the authority to remove inactive members.
We don't want dead weight in our clan. We remove clan members on a case by case basis. There is not a hard and fast rule.
One thing to consider is how many clan experience points a member has contributed. If a new member has not even played in three days and have contributed 0 clan XP feel free to remove them. If they have contributed a lot of ex points they deserve some slack.
Another reason for overlooking the shortcomings of a new member is if they preform well in Clan vs. Clan activities.
Other than that let your conscience be your guide. As clan leader of the men of virtue, I suggest you do what you believe to be right.
One request, please don't delete active players because they are not high ranking enough. Don't remove members just because you think there is some reason other than non-participation that they should be removed. Again please don't remove active players just because you think they are not good enough. As I have said before, a basic human need is to feel love and acceptance. As long as our members want to play with us they should be loved and accepted even if they are not that far along in the game.
Welcome to our clan vs. clan section. The next two subsections only contain information when we are in the midst of battle. During battles they are updated very frequently. They only contain information about our current battle.
This space is used to report the latest news in our CvC battles. This space is deliberately left blank when no CvC battles are either pending or current.
This section is deliberately left blank until a CvC battle begins. It gets deleted soon after the end of a CvC battle.
Not playing in CvC is grounds for removal from this clan for new members. New members are required to score a minimum of 1000 points. This is a low requirement. But in this clan it is enough to collect the clan rewards. We almost always score enough to get all the clan rewards.
Exceptional preformance in CvC might help us to overlook new member short comings in other areas.
Participation in CvC is requirement (A) in the list of new member requirements. The button below will take you to the section on members which includes a discussion of new member requirements. You will need to scroll a bit to find task (A).
The most important thing in clan vs clan are the clan rewards. We almost always score more than 600,000 points CvC. That is enough to collect all the Clan rewards. Clan rewards are milestones that the whole clan works together to get. Just score over 1,000 points in our clan and you start to get the clan rewards.
These give us extra energy and lots of other good stuff. Actually winning the clan vs clan battle only gives you a couple of cool rings and glory. Both are good, but the most important thing, win or loose, is to score 600,000, which is enough to get all the mile stone rewards. This clan has been doing this consistently.
In the clan rewards are 15 clan experience points per player. These points help our clan to advance to the next level. Please be sure to collect them.
One word is my secrete. "SAVINGS"
For example every day we get a free gift basket from raid and often these include an energy refill. I save these up for clan vs clan.
I try to save up a good cash of gems to buy energy
I also normally save up all my sole stones to use in CvC.
I like to save up my shards and cash most of them in during CvC.
Also I like to have a nice stash of forge materials that I like to cash in at the forge in CvC battles.
My only other secrete is that I hit the replay button a lot.

Last time I checked, we had gone into matching phase. We had 48 teams out of a needed 64 teams set up in defensive team slots in our clan fortress. The rest will have to get filled in by reserves.
Our stronghold is at full strength.
Our mana shrines are almost unmanned.
We can do better. Some of these spots can be filled in randomly by our reserve teams but it would be nice if we set more teams.
They changed the rules. Now all you need to do to collect rewards in siege is place a team in a defensive team slot during the prep phase. The prep phase lasts 12 days.
If you do this you get your milestone rewards. You also get mana orbs if our mana shrines or stronghold survive. You also get mana orbs if our clan destroys their mana shrines or strongholds.
If your defensive team slots survives the battle you get florins.
After the siege battle all you need to do is go to the battle report and collect.
I would like so see all or most of us place teams in defensive team slots in the prep phase.
New members are required to place teams in the clan fortress. Failure to do this is grounds for removal for new members. We really need your help.
Veteran members are also encouraged to place teams. Veteran members will not be removed from the clan if they don't want to play siege, but we wish you would choose to play.
Each of us gets two siege Def Scrolls. You can click on a building and add your team to the garrison as long as you have any siege Def Scrolls left.
Exact directions on how to do this is in the subsection bellow this section titled "How to add a team to a team slot.' If you move your team out of a position you get your Def Scroll refunded so we can move around the clan fortress for 12 days before it gets locked in at the time of battle.
This means we can look at different setups and talk to each other in order to improve them.
From the bastion if you click on battles you will see a list of different types of battles. You will see campaign, dungeon and so on. Siege is the battle on the far right hand side of this list. Click on Siege, a map of our clan fortress comes up.
Click on a post or building you want to occupy and a new window will appear, then click on the square up at the top of this new window and it will give you a space where you can add four champions. Then hit set.
Again in the 12 day long prep phase you can move your teams around. If you move a team out of a building or post your siege DEF scroll gets refunded and you can use it someplace else.
Just because our stronghold or one of our other buildings has been "destroyed" in a battle phase does not mean we can't defend it. In fact you can add teams to empty team slots without repairing them first.
A great way to learn about siege is to read the official documentation.
People are asking if we have a coherent strategy for siege.
I hope that we can developer a sort of "hive mind" as we learn to work together. This is explained in the next section. Also helpful would be to read my section about how I view my role as a clan leader.
I hope that members of our clan can see something that needs to be done in siege and just do it without being told. I hope that when clan members are out of resources they suggest to our fellow members in chat things that need to be done. Together in this way we can form a sort of collective hive mind. This is our collective consciousness so to speak.
If you click on Siege you will see the map of our clan fortress. In the upper left hand corner of the map is a little "i" you can click on that and it will bring up the information page for this new siege clan activity. You can also get to the same page by clicking a button in the first subsection of this article about siege.
Also in the upper left hand corner of the clan fortress map there are two important numbers in magenta. These are the number of defensive team slots currently ocupied and the total number of sefensive slots available.
Up at the top of each structure are two flags. These are controlled by clicking on the building and then clicking on "upgrade". From there you can click "order repair" and order defend. I am not sure exactly what these do but they might be a way for deputies to communicate plans with the rest of the clan.
As your clan leader, I suggest that our main objective in siege is to build a powerful clan fortress.
Imagine all our buildings raised to level three and with really nice bonuses set on every building. Imagine every post with a team in it and a really tricky condition set.
In order to accomplish this we are going to have to do a lot of repairing , upgrading and setting bonuses.
We were crushed in our first siege battle.
We got matched with a much more powerful team and were slaughtered. Our stronghold was destroyed along with all our magic towers and defensive towers.
Fortunately they have changed siege to make it a lot easier to rebuild the buildings in the clan fortress by reducing the cost to rebuild by 93%.
Last time I checked all of our all buildings had been repaired.
Our stronghold has beem repaired this prep phase.
MT1 (magic tower 1) has been repaired and a bonus set for it. I know, because I paid for it. This tower is known as the east magic tower, or the magic hobo tower since I am set up in there.
Be warned that you can't upgrade a destroyed building until after you repair it first, but you can still donate florens to the upgrade fund of a destroyed building.
Some of us have a favorite building in our clan fortress. If you like a particular building feel free to move into it and repair it. Then you have the right to give it a name!
My suggestion is that clan members let their hearts be their guide as to where they want to donate their florins.
During the 12 day prep phase an important goal is to repair and then upgrade our stronghold. The stronghold when repaired gives gives every building in our entire clan fortress a bonus.
Our stronghold has been repaired this prep phase.
They lowered the price of a stronghold repair to 350 florins. In other words they lowered the cost to rebuild the stronghold by 93%. So it now costs (5,000 × .07) = 350 florens to rebuild the stronghold.
Having a repaired stronghold is a matter of pride for our clan. When we repair the stronghold it makes our entire clan fortress stronger. We are then able to use our mana orbs to set bonuses in our stronghold which apply to every building in the stronghold.
Our stronghold is currently level 2. Other buildings can be upgraded to the level our stronghold.
Some of our members with longer range thinking have been donating florins to our stronghold upgraded fund and we got enough florens to do an upgrade on our stronghold to level 2.
Only two buildings were not destroyed in our first siege battle. These were our two mana shrines. They have never been defeated.
Our mana shrines should be defended at all costs. If the mana shrines survive a siege battle the reward is mana orbs. We get 130 orbs each or 260 orbs for defending both shines succesfully.
If they get destroyed it used to cost 2,000 florens before they lowered repair costa.
Now it costs (2,000 × .07)= 140 florens to repair a mana shrine I think.
Defended mana shrines bring in 130 mana orbs each. A defended stronghold only brings in 75 mana orbs. Mana shrines are important because if we succesfully defend both of them every member of our clan that places a team in a defensive team slot or wins at least one PvP slot offensive battle gets 260 mana orbs which come in really handy in siege.
As mentioned before be warned that you can't upgrade a building that has been destroyed until you rebuild it first. Also you can't upgrade a building to a higher level than our stronghold.
Our stronghold is currently level 2.
This means that donating florens to the upgrade fund of buildings can upgrade them to level to can take effect imediately.
In the video you can see by clicking the button at the bottom of this subsection it shows exactly how to repair a building. It just repairs itself once enough florens have been donated.
Here are step by step directions. If you click on a building in the siege map a window will open. There is a button over on the top left of this window that says "update". You click on that update button both to update and repair.
Once you click on that first update button another window opens up. You will see two donate buttons. The upper donate button has the word upgrade above it. The lower donate button has the word "repair" above it. Hit the donate button you want and yet another window opens up. Type in the amount you want to donate. Then you can donate your florens by hitting the button.
Again:
Our stronghold costs 350 florens to repair.
Mana shrines cost 140 florens to repair.
Magic towers cost to 125 florens to repair.
Defence towers are 70 florens to repair.
I was able to repair magic tower 1 without any difficulty. The only hard part is getting the florens we need.
To put it another way, where do we donate our florens?
This is something we should decide together as a clan. Where we decide to put our florens is less important than that we all pool our resources.
Right now I am set up in magic tower one. I have repaired it and set up a bonus.
Looks like we will be able to do some serious repairing with the new prices.
There is another whole section about siege that contains basic information on the topic. This new section contains the latest thinking in battle strategy. If you have time consider a review of siege, by reading the section on Siege basics.
I have outlined some strategies we might use in the next siege battle.
We currently have only two buildings left in our clan fortress that have never been destroyed. These are our two mana shrines. They have survived this most recent battle.
We get 260 mana orbs by defending both our shrines. That is 130 mana orbs per shrine.
If a mana shrine gets destroyed it costs 140 florins to repair it. This is 280 florins in repair costs if both are destroyed.
Again, I suggest that we can defend our mana shrine buildings in upcoming battles at all costs.
There are only three ways into the clan fortress. Post 2, Post 3 and Post 5.
In our clan we call the right side of the map the "east side." So Post 5 can be called "the east gate." Post 2 can be called " the west gate" and Post 3 can be called "the docks."
I like it when a really strong player decides to move into the post 2, the "west gate" position in the preparation phase of siege battle. This is the only direct access to the west side of the river.
If the defender of Post 2, the west gate has a small personal cash of mana orbs they can use them to "set conditions" on their post to make it even harder to take.
In theory if the enemy can't take one of these three posts they can't destroy any buildings. But this should only be our first line of defence. We might not be able to stop them at our front lines. In order to shut them out of our clan fortress we would need three teams so powerful that they don't have a single team that can beat any of them.
If our stronghold gets destroyed in the battle phase, it will cost 350 florins to repair it.
Those of you who feel your place is in the stronghold by all means set up your team there.
Weaker teams setting up here will be especially useful if they set up in the first positions because they will force the enemy to use up his attack scrolls, before they get to our stronger players.
If we successfully defend our stronghold we get 75 mana orbs.
There are 5 bridges over the river. These look like really great posts to defend especially if we could defend all 5 of them. It would take all your siege DEF Scrolls to defend a bridge. One for each end.
As you look over the map, look at all the magic and defence towers and think about where you belong. Then move in there. Use chat to discuss with the rest of the clan.
As your clan leader I suggest that our primary goal in playing siege is to build a really powerful clan fortress.
Sandbagging may help us to achieve this goal.
However the cost to repair buildings has been reduced by 93% since the first version of this article was written. This means that much less damage in terms of florins will happen in each siege battle.
This gives less incentive to lower our ranking and face weaker clans than we had before. This is because repair costs are so much lower now.
Also higher tiers have better rewards. So having a lower ranking in siege has drawbacks as well as advantages.
Temperance can be defined as moderation in most things. For example eating to much food is bad, but not eating enough food is also bad. Temperance in eating would mean eating just the right amount of food, and not too little or too much.
Greed is a deadly sin. As long as we don't get greedy, wanting to get too many florins we will be fine.
By practicing the virtue of temperance we can get some florins but not so many that we pick up too many "victory points" and thus weaken our clan fortress in future battles by attracting more powerful teams.
Now that the cost to repair buildings has gone down by 93%, this becomes less of a consideration.
With each siege battle, some damage is done to our clan fortress. At the same time some florins come in. If the damage done to our fortress is more than the florins we bring in we will never be able to rebuild our beloved clan fortress. It means that we have a negative florin flow.
That is why it is might be useful in some cases to avoid getting to many victory points. Victory points increase the power of the team we will be matched against in the next siege battle.
Siege "victory points" work a lot like classic "arena points." When you fight a PvP battle in either case you get positive points if you win and negative points if you lose.
Sandbagging is the term our clan uses to mean deliberately losing some individual PvP team slot siege battles to get our clan to a lower "victory point" level.
The sad thing is that the more PvP battles we win in siege, the more damage we will receive in the next siege battle. This is because the higher we go in siege "victory points" the more powerful the team we will be matched with in the next siege battle. This is because team matching is based on our cumulative "victory points".
In other words it might be a good idea to lower the total number of victory points we get in siege battles so that we face weaker opponents with poor communication skills, that will do less damage to our clan fortress. If a siege battle produced a negative total on "victory points" it may help our clan in the long run.
Again, now that the cost for repairs has been reduced 93%, this is much less of a consideration than it once was.
Let me know what you think of this idea in the chat.
Ever notice that a lot of people put an extremely weak defensive team in the classic arena battles? This can be an effective tactic.
The true goal of arena battles is to get classic arena medals that can be used in the great hall to boost the stats of each of the four factions of champions.
Unfortunately the higher you climb in ranking the fewer battles you will be able to win with each refresh you do.
That is why putting a really weak team in as the defenders on the classic arena makes a lot of sense. Lose battles, go down in rank, get more medals to spend in the great hall.
There may be a parallel tactic in siege battles. Negative siege "victory points" can help us.
Every time you win a team slot PVP battle in siege, either offensive or defensive you win some of these nasty little "victory points."
Every time you lose a battle you lose "victory points".
If the enemy team attacks one of the your defensive team slots and loses that counts as a defensive victory. Also if your defensive team survives the entire siege battle, that counts as defensive victory and you get victory points.
Winning an offensive battle agenst a enemy team slot gets victory points. If you lose an offensive battle you lose victory points. You get three replays and if you lose a battle and then lose the replays it means more negative victory points.
We might want to think about in some cases limiting our number of these cumulative "victory point" to be negitive so that we only get matched with teams that will do little damage to our beloved clan fortress.
Looks like in tier 2 you get 2 victory points for a team slot PVP win and a victory point is subtracted when a defensive team slot PVP is defeated.
Remember you also get "victory points" if a position you set up survives the battle, just like if a enemy team member attacks your defensive team slot and loses.
We also get 20 victory points is if we win a siege battle.
There are also "victory medals". Medals are different than points. These will be reviewed in the next section.
Note that victor medals are very different from victory points. Victory medals are obtained by achieving certain objectives.
Victory medals are kind of like the points you get in Clan vs. Clan. They help you get milestone rewards. But, unlike "victory points" they don't stick around from siege battle to siege battle.
There are two requirements "win" a siege. You need to get more victory medals than the other team. The second requirement to be declaired "winner" of the siege is to destroy the opponents stronghold. You have to do both to "win".
"Winning" a siege battle mighty actually really hurt our clan and keep us from achieving our main objective which again is to build a really powerful fortress.
You get mama orbs from not having your stronghold destroyed. You also get mana orbs when our mana shrines are not destroyed.
Unfortunately you have to win at least one battle go get any rewards. But winning to many battles, in terms of getting to the goal of building a powerful clan fortress can be counter-productive.
If possible everybody should win at least one offensive PvP team slot battle. You need one victory to collect rewards.
Say you are in tier 2 and you win a team slot PVP match, that gives you +2 victory points.
If you lose your other two offensive battles that is minus one victory point each. If you then re-battle 3 times that is -3 more points for a total of -5. So factoring in your one offencive win (2 - 5) is a total of -3 victory points.
Then there are the defensive battles. We get two siege DEF scrolls that let us set up two defensive positions. Some of us are going to need to win defensive battles if we want to hold our stronghold and mana shrines. For those of us who hold a defensive position that is another +2 points. For those of us that put weak teams into defensive slots, which are if no strategic imoortance mana wise, that would be another-2 victory points.
This means that some of us could get (-3 + -2) for a total of -5 victory points.
Of course we need strong players to defend the stronghold and mana shrines. Some of them will get two defensive victories which would give us +4 victory points on defense. Hopefully the weaker players can to there part to cancel this out.
After each attack we make on an enemy team slot, a window opens showing how many "victory points" we have in total. When this number gets to 380 we go up to tier 3.
Also in this window it shows how many victory points we have won or lost in a particular team slot PVP contest.
In conclusion our lust for florins can bring too many victory points that hurt the clan by bringing us up in the rankings and forcing us up against more powerful clans that will do more damage to the clan fortress.
I wonder what other members think of this idea.
